Obituary for Wilson

Fred L. Wilson, age 82, passed away on January 23, 2001. Mr. Wilson was a Rio Rancho resident since 1991. He was born in Charleston, IL on December 26, 1918 to George W. and Ruth W. Wilson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice J. Wilson and survived by children, William and wife, Maude of Rio Rancho, Sharon Wilson of Rio Rancho, Barbara Lumley and husband, Jim of Elephant Butte and Clovis, and Fred C. and wife, Janet of Albuquerque; brother, Roy K. Wilson of Georgia; sister, Helen M. Paull of Florida; grandchildren, Kelly Wilson, Michael and Michele Wood, Jimmy Wilson and wife, Rachel, Zachary, Shawn, Kyle and Rachel Wilson; and great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Wood; and great-grandson, James Wilson; and niece, Diane M. Paull of Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were married in East Alton, MO on September 14, 1941. He earned his Bachelor of Education degree from Eastern Illinois University and his graduate work at the University of Illinois. He taught Industrial Arts at Arthur, IL 1950 - 1952 and worked as an Industrial Arts teacher, Guidance Counselor and Dean of Students at J. Sterling Morton High School In Berwyn, IL 1952-1975. He served as Athletic Instructor in the U.S. Navy 1943-1945. He served as Village Trustee and Mayor in North Riverside, IL 1956-1962. He owned and operated the Fred Wilson Golf Range 1957-1975. He also organized the Little League in Arthur and North Riverside, IL. In 1968, he and his wife went on a sabbatical leave to the Mexico City Olympics, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. He retired in Albuquerque in 1975, and moved to Cochiti Lake, NM 1983-1991 after he suffered a stroke in 1979. even though he was paralyzed on the right side, he rode an electric wheelchair and led a busy productive life. He moved to Rio Rancho in 1991 just before his 50th wedding anniversary. He is admired for all of his hard work throughout the years and his devotion to his family and friends. He loved all kinds of sports and was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. To our Dad and Grandpa, we will never forget your kind heart and devotion to your family. You learned early in life to never give up and always had a great smile for all you met. You have made the best of any situation and have lived your life as the person we all wish to strive to be. We love you and you will live on in our hearts and memories. A visitation for Fred will be held on Friday, January 26, 2001 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Rio Rancho Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. also in the Chapel of Rio Rancho Funeral Home with Allen Schauer as officiant.
