Otmar M. Stuetzer, 88, a resident of Albuquerque for 37 years, passed away January 20, 2001. His first wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Stuetzer, his son, Max Stuetzer, and his sister, Hildegard Nahrhaft preceded him in death. Otmar is survived by his wife, Ann L. Stuetzer; daughters, Irmgard Hudson and Irene Lewis; five grandchildren, Ray and Nancy Hudson, Andrea Graham, Heather Kenny and Michael Lewis; three great-grandchildren, Riley and Ryan Graham and Chad Kenny. Otmar was born April 30, 1912 in Nuremberg, Germany. He received his doctorates in physics and electrical engineering at the Munich Insitute of Technology, Germany. He was instrumental in the development of radar and microwave optics. Otmar came to the United States in 1945 where he worked at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, until 1955. He then joined General Mills, Minneapolis, MN where he was a project manager for the highest world record manned stratospheric balloon ascent. In 1963, Otmar joined Sandia National Laboratories where his work involved the protection of electronic systems in the harsh environment of space and nuclear radiation. He retired in 1977 but continued to be a consultant until 1998. he originated over 40 patents and published many technical articles for engineering and scientific journals. He was a member of AIAA, IEE as well as an American Physical Society Fellow. Memorial Services will be held at Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, January 27, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
