Obituary for Rodgers

Edward Sherman Rodgers, Jr., known affectionately to family and friends as "Pop" or "Junior", passed away peacefully at the family home January 13, 2001. Born April 4, 1917, at St. Joseph's Hospital, he was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School. He founded Rodgers Water Well Company in 1946 and retired in 1972 to follow his lifelong love of farming. He loved sharing his produce with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elsie Rodgers; by sons, Clarence Rodgers and wife, Victoria, Jim Rodgers and wife, Jimi Sue, Stanley Rodgers and wife, Jeannette, David Rodgers and wife, Kathy; by grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Cindy Bernier and daughter Arielle, Chris Rodgers and son Christopher, Melissa Chivetta and husband Jeff, Jay Rodgers and wife, Wendy, and children James, John, Jared, and Joy, Phillip Rodgers and sons, Derek and David, Robert Rodgers and wife, Valerie and children, Caitlyn and Kevin, Rhonda Rodgers, Derek Rodgers and wife, Hope, Stephanie Sanderson and husband, Rick, and children Meghan, Rachel, and Melanie; by sisters Dola Clark and husband, Jim, Sr. Roberta Marie Rodgers, Sr. Marie Rodgers, Rita Kerr and husband, Jack, Jane Mechenbier and husband, Jerry; by brothers, Governor Rodgers and wife, Marcie, Bob Rodgers and wife, Charlene; by nephew and special friend, Mike Mechenbier and wife, Cathy; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by baby daughter, Teresa Mae; sisters, Catherine Jones and husband, Everette, Lillian Rodgers; brothers, Beaven Rodgers and wife, Edna, Stephen Matthew Rodgers, and John B. Rodgers. Mass will be held Thursday, 9:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE, with Father Clarence Galli, Celebrant. Entombment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pall bearers will be Chris Rodgers, Jeff Chiavetta, Jay Rodgers, Phillip Rodgers, Robert Rodgers, Derek Rodgers, and Rick Sanderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Bernier, Bill Gragg, Lee Martin, Gene Coble, Lloyd Wiley, Mike Mechenbier, and Juan Rincon.
