Obituary for Copeland

James D. Copeland, 85, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001 of complications from emphysema. Born April 21, 1915 in Elkins, NM ninth of ten children, he had a fascinating life. Joining the Navy in 1939, he became a pilot and served in the Pacific. He met his beloved wife of 46 years, Margaret in Australia. Retiring in London in 1963, he returned to New Mexico and lived here the remainder of his life. Independent to the end, he walked to the hospital one week before he passed away. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela of New Jersey and her husband, Michael; son, Robert and his wife, Karen of Santa Fe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret. Cremation has taken place.
