Obituary for Barros

Armida E. Barros, age 62, passed away at a local hospital Friday morning, April 20, 2001. She was born July 14, 1938, in Cuba New Mexico to the late Rudolph F. and Maria L. (Montoya) Velarde. She is survived by her son, Steve P. Barros and his wife, Tammy McGuinness of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sisters, Dorothy Velarde Gusdorf and her husband, Frank of Taos, New Mexico, Edith Velarde Massey of Cuba, New Mexico, Consuelo V. Chavez and her husband, Benito I. of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Monique, Estevan, Tamara and Tanya. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. Ms. Barros was a Business Analyst with Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico for 36 years. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon April 22, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and the Rosary will follow in the Palm Chapel of the Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave SE. A Mass will be celebrated Monday April 23, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. at the Queen of Heaven Church located at 5311 Phoenix Ave NE. Pallbearers will be Steve Barros, John Brandt , Aaron Massey, Guillermo Elizalde, Frank Gusdorf and Benito I. Chavez. Honorary pallbearers will be Rudy Ben Chavez, Andrew Chavez, David Chavez, Vidal Velarde and Richard Velarde Sr. Interment will follow at approximately 1:00 PM at the Catholic Cemetery in Cuba, New Mexico. The arrangements for Armida E. Barros are under the direction of the Strong-Thorne Mortuary.
