Obituary for George

Robert P. George, 87, of Boise died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at St. Lukes Hospital. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. at Hillview United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 6, 2001. Burial to followed in Cloverdale Memorial Park. Services were under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise, Idaho. Robert was born September 7, 1913 in Whitesburg, Kentucky. Robert received his M.D. Degree at Northwestern University. Following his internship Dr. Bob served in the Untied States Army Medical Corp from 1941 to 1946 during World War II in the European Theater. After the war he completed specialty training in obstetrics and gynecology. He practiced OBGYN briefly in Akron, Ohio; approximately 30 years in Albuquerque, New Mexico then moved his practice to Gillette, Wyoming for a brief period. He then moved to Boise, Idaho and in semi-retirement he rendered services to the Salvation Army on a regular basis. The loss of eyesight prevented the continuation of his practice. Dr. Bob's practice of medicine spanned more than half a century entailing the delivery of many thousand of babies. Dr. Bob and his wife, Nell were active in the Hillview United Methodist Church which formed the focus of their lives. Dr. Bob is survived by his wife, Nell; a son, Robert Preston George, Jr., M.D. of Corrales, New Mexico; a daughter, Patricia George Johnson of Albuquerque, New Mexico and a brother, Charles H. George of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; his grandchildren are Kris W. Johnson and Kathleen K. Johnson of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Bob was preceded in death by his father, James Hereford George, mother, Laura Belle GIbson George, brother, James Beline George and a son, Charles Wilder George. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of St. Luke's Hospital and MISTI for their loving care of Dr. Bob during his illness.
