Smith -- Joseph M. Smith Jr., 82, the third of five generations of Smith's in New Mexico and a resident of Albuquerque since 1970, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 1998. He is survived by his lovely wife of 53 years, Catherine of Albuquerque; son, Joseph M. Smith III, M.D. and his wife, Patricia of Santa Fe; daughter, Cairn Smith of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Leland, Dustin, Caitlin, and Mitchel. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Smith of Albuquerque; brother, A.W. Smith of Santa Rosa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Fannie Guy and Faye Hamilton; and brother, Earl Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of Masonic Liberty Lodge #51 A.F.&A.M. and was also active in the Scottish Rite. Mr. Smith was an avid sportsman and golfer. Services will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m., at Santa Rosa United Methodist Church, 401 4th St., in Santa Rosa, with Rev. Ralph Valdez officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, also in Santa Rosa. Pallbearers will be David Smith, L.J. Smith, Dustin Smith, James Hamilton, Dennis Shiplit, and Jody Smith. Buster Dudrey will serve as honorary pallbearer. Strickland -- Jimmy Strickland, 30, passed away September 2, 1998 in Albuquerque. He graduated from Los Lunas High School. He loved fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include wife of eight years, Erica; parents, James L. and Annette E. Strickland of Albuquerque; father and mother-in-law, Howard and Sharon Schindler of Albuquerque; mother and father-in-law, Gregory and Marsha Candela of Los Lunas; grandparents, Barbara A. Kaiser of Oregon, Evelyn Hausman of New Jersey and Warren and Jan Candela of Nevada; sister, Evonne Patterson of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Mary Lane of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, David Schindler of Albuquerque; nephews, Jesse Patterson and K.J. Branch, both of Albuquerque; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends. Preceded in death by two sisters, Sherry and Cathy Strickland. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 1998 at the Fern Chapel at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Torres -- Sixto Torres, age 45, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 30, 1998. He is survived by his sons, Sixto J. Torres, Joe Ben Barela, Sonny Barela; brother, Isidro Torres Jr. and wife, Ruby; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous God children; grandchildren, Anthony Barela, Benjamin Barela and Sonny Archuleta. Sixto was preceded in death by his parents, Isidro and Mary Torres. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, September 3, 1998, 7:00 p.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 4, 1998, 9:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE, with Father Thai Tran as Celebrant. Wheeler -- William Harold Wheeler passed away on September 1, 1998 in Albuquerque. He was born in Oglesby, TX and served in the US Navy. He married Cleo Springstead in April 1956 in El Paso, TX, where they lived until moving to Albuquerque in 1963. He attended the University of New Mexico, where he studied history-a subject he loved. He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 28 years and was an East Area Staff Officer. He was a member of Academy Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, William Alton Wheeler in 1964; and by a son, William Alton Wheeler in 1982. He is survived by his wife, Cleo Wheeler of Albuquerque; a daughter, Melanie D. DeNardis and husband, Gary of Edgewood, NM; a son, Matthew Kirk Wheeler and wife, Pamela of Bernalillo, NM; his mother, Mildred Wheeler of Albuquerque; a brother, Tommy Wheeler and wife, Betty of El Paso, TX; and two grandchildren, Anthony Gary DeNardis and Matthew William DeNardis, both of Edgewood, NM. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., this morning, in the Chapel of Sandia Funeral Care with Rev. Jack Stricklan of Community Bible Fellowship officiating. Baldonado -- Richard E. Baldonado, passed away August 30, 1998. He was a native New Mexican and a member of the American Legion Post 13. Mr. Baldonado served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. He is survived by his children, Theresa Blackwood, Diamond Chavez, Tina Baldonado, and Troy Baldonado and wife, Donna; mother, Claire Blackwood; brother, Bob Blackwood; sister, Cindy Blackwood; very special aunts, Eleanor Baca, Trinie Sanchez, and Fina Chavez; uncle, Louie Baldonado; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, and numerous family and friends who will miss him. Services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 1998, and Mass to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 1998. Blanchette -- Rose T. Blanchette, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died Tuesday, September 1, 1998. She is survived by her sister, Marion Cook of Cambridge, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Blanchette was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Rite Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Cactus Club, Handwriting Analysis Club, and Sandia Civitan Club. Rosary will be recited Thursday, 5:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 1837 Alvarado Dr. NE. Chavarria -- The family and friends of Christopher Gene Chavarria will be saying good-bye on Thursday, September 3, 1998, 12:00 noon, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW. God called Christopher home early Monday morning. Christopher left behind his parents, Gene and Nellie Chavarria; his brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Joyce of Albuquerque; his brother, Jerry and sister-in-law, Virginia of Waterloo, NY; and sister, Lee of San Diego, CA have arrived at the family home. Christopher was not only a good son and loving brother, but also a generous and loved uncle and great-uncle to his nieces and nephews, Adam, Dasha, Nathaniel, Jeanie and Jerry Jr. He will also leave behind his best friend, Gary Bearly of Albuquerque. Havens -- Arthur Jake Havens, 59, of Amarillo, TX, died Monday, August 31, 1998. Services were at 10:00 a.m. today in Kingswood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Tamplen of the church officiating. Burial was at 4:00 p.m. MDT today in Village of Roy Cemetery at Roy, NM. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, TX. Mr. Havens was born in Roy and moved to Amarillo in 1958. He graduated from Roy High School in 1957. He retired as an engineer from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. after 34 years. After retirement, he worked at Comanche Trail Golf Course and was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Survivors include the mother of his children, Mary Cash of Dallas; three sons, Pat Havens of Costa Mesa, CA, Mike Havens of Amarillo and David Havens of Dallas; his mother, Bertha Havens of Albuquerque; three brothers, Leroy Havens, Martin Havens and Wayne Shaw, all of Albuquerque; three sisters, Mary Jane Havens and Christy Hollingsworth, both of Albuquerque and Patsy Herrera of Farmington; a special friend, Priscilla Butts of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Ladonsky -- Alma M. Ladonsky, 84, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 25 years, passed away on Monday, August 31, 1998. Alma was born June 8, 1914, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Tassi Malaspina in New York City, New York. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church Altar and Rosary Society. Alma is survived by two nieces, Noel Burr of Ohio and Suzanne Ward of California. Visitation will be held today, Thursday, September 3, 1998, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho, with the Mass of Resurrection on Friday, September 4, 1998, 10:30 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Msgr.
