Matthew -- Roy Matthew, 90, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque died Thursday, April 23, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vesta Matthew; his two daughters, Judy Kowrach and husband, Ray of Cheyenne, WO, Linda Robinson and husband, Jim of Truxton, MO; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. Mr. Matthew was a true native of the Albuquerque area having been born here in 1908. The original Yott homestead is on the 3600 block of 12th St. and is on the National Historic Register. The Matthew family was instrumental in founding the Albuquerque Symphony and owed and operated Matthew Dairy. Mr. Matthew would deliver milk throughout the city with his father in a horse drawn wagon as a young man. He was a private pilot that owned and operated several different airplanes that he flew out of the 7-Bar Airport. Mr. Matthew was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and went out on many search and rescue missions. He was a life-long member of the ELKS Lodge 461-51'er, he represented the State of New Mexico at Camp Perry, Ohio in the National Rifle Association. Mr. Matthew was an avid hunter and rode his motorcycle well into his eighties. Services for Mr. Matthew will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 1998 in the afternoon at Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Kay Huggins, officiating. Mccabe -- Ellen M. McCabe, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, April 24, 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack McCabe. Survivors include two daughters, Sheri and Casey; and one son, Jay. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Brad, Jason, Brynn and Tiffany; one great-grandchild, Justine; three sisters, Connie, Charlene and Renee; and one brother, Chuck. Mrs. McCabe was a member of the Irish American Society, the German American Club and Comhaltas Safe home, Ellen. Cremation arrangements by Sunrise Society (891-8200). Mesnard -- 49-year old resident of Albuquerque, James M. Mesnard, deceased at age 76 in Las Vegas, NV, April 5, 1998. James was born in Lackawanna, NY, December 22, 1922. He lived his childhood in Hamburg, NY. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY in June of 1940, where he received full scholarship for academic achievement. He then attended the Institute of Meteorology in Chicago, IL. He was a member of the Twelfth Weather Squadron/Army Air Force, where he was in active duty February 28, 1944 through January 3, 1946. He was decorated with the European Africa Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Meritorious Service Unit Plaque. He then graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in Lafayette, IN on June 13, 1948. He also received his Masters Degree from the University of New Mexico in the early 1970's in Education. He began his work with Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque in 1948 through 1971 as a Mechanical Engineer. From 1956 through 1960, he worked in Livermore, CA with the Sandia Group. He then began work with the Air Force Weapons Lab, Department of United States of Air Force at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, where he retired on October 3, 1990. For 30 years, his favorite pastime was Bridge, playing with his group of close friends, Dr. Alan Minge, Dr. Jake Spidle, John Barry, Frank McMullin and Doris (Smokey) Partrick. He is survived by his good friend, Betty J. Peterson of Las Vegas, NV, Dr. Caroline Peterson of Dayton, OH, Mikel Peterson of Las Vegas, NV, his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Betts Mesnard of Hamburg, NY, his sister-in-law, June Mesnard and his three nephews, Bob Mesnard, Dr. Bill Mesnard and Ron Mesnard. He was predeceased by his brother, Howard Mesnard in 1994. Memorial services will be held at Christ United Methodist Church on Gibson Blvd. in Albuquerque at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, April 27th. Mohr -- Carl E. Mohr passed away quietly in his home April 17, 1998 at the age of 62. Lt. Col. Mohr retired from the US Army on October 31, 1986 after a full and rewarding career. He was born November 20, 1936 in Centralia, Illinois to Gretchen and Carl Eklund of Berwyn, Illinois and later adopted by Emil Mohr of Medford, Oregon. Carl is survived by his wife, Charlotte"Jody" Mohr; son, Paul and daughter, Kathryn of Albuquerque and daughter, Diane Walling, husband Greg, and two granddaughters of Salem, Oregon. Nelson -- Harriett L. Nelson, 81, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on April 21, 1998. She was a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Wayne C. Nelson; two sons, Jerry W. Nelson and wife, Alice of Illinois and Terry S. Nelson and wife, Kara of Twin Falls, ID; one daughter, Vicki L. Nelson and companion, Sue of Brookfield, WI; three grandchildren, Mark, Megan and Frances; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Carol Jordan of Denver, CO. Nowicki -- Thadeus"Ted" J. Nowicki Sr., 74, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, was called home to a better place on Wednesday, April 22, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Carmen of the family home; sons, Thadeus Nowicki Jr. of Albuquerque, and George Nowicki Sr. and wife, Michelle of Lancaster, CA; and three grandsons, George Jr., John, and Joseph. The loving memories he left us with will remain in our hearts forever. Ted was a caring, compassionate man who always thought of others before himself. He was a retired pharmacist from Walgreen's Pharmacy, and a past member of the New Mexico Pharmaceutical Association. He was a past member of both the Kappa Psi Fraternity and the BPOE #601. We are thankful that God blessed our lives with his presence and know that there will be a day when we will be together again. Services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Fr. Paul Johnson officiating. Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Oakes -- Russell Curtis Oakes, 80, of Rio Rancho passed away on Thursday April 23, 1998. He was born August 9, 1917 in Western New York state. Dr. Oakes was educated at Cornell University, and received his E.D.D. from New York University in New York City. He taught high school for twenty years in Long Island, and for another twenty years, he held a full professorship in education at the University of New York at Geneseo, NY. A veteran, he served during WWII with the Navy and Merchant Marines. Following retirement, he and Mrs. Oakes settled in Rio Rancho in the mid-eighties. Survivors include, Dorothy Oakes, his wife of fifty-six years; his children, Margaret Oakes of Las Vegas, NV, Barbara Oakes of New York City, James Oakes of Perry, NY, Nancy Oakes and husband, Rick Cannon of Vermont, and John Oakes and wife, Danette of Medina, NY; and his grandchildren, Jesse Oakes Cannon, Sarah Oakes Cannon, Laura Oakes Cannon, Anna Oakes, and Elizabeth Oakes. Also surviving are his son-in-law, John Reynolds of Minnesota; his brother, James Oakes and wife, Nicky of Las Cruces, NM; and many other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Reynolds who passed away at the age of twenty. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 27, 1998 at 3:00 p.m., at St. Paul's United Church, 2700 Rio Rancho Blvd., with the Rev. Dr. Richard Freeman officiating. Reardon -- William Ellis Reardon, a resident of Albuquerque since 1953, died at home on Friday, April 24, 1998. Born August 25, 1927 in Duncan, OK, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Vendla; sons, Mike and wife, Liz, Chuck and wife, Pam; and grandsons, Spencer, Mike, Will; sister, Jane and husband, Herb Dwight of Santa Rosa, CA; aunt, Betty Jo and husband, OJ. Bejcek of Dallas, TX; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Betty Reardon; and daughter, Kelly. After serving in the Navy, Bill attended U. of Okla. where he received his Business BA and Law Degree. He and his wife and new baby came to Albuquerque in 1953, where he was a stockbroker for 40 years. In 1971, Bill initiated contact with Dean Witter and Co. to open their first office in Albuquerque with three friends from Goodbody and Company. It has grown to a firm of five offices, providing employment to 130 people in New Mexico. Bill Reardon was an outdoorsman. He served two terms as president of the Albuquerque Country Club, where he was a member for 40 years. Bill loved hunting and fly fishing. He was a great protector of wildlife and never minded throwing the big one back. A big part of his life was spent at the family's Canon Bonita and Red River Ranches in northeast New Mexico, where the family enjoyed most weekends and holidays. A private family service will be held as per Bill's wishes. He never wanted his friends to say they had to miss something because they had to go to his funeral. The family wishes to celebrate his life with good friends between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 27, at the family home.
