Obituary for Triouleyre

Gertrude Martin Triouleyre (Trudy), 87, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1989, died December 2, 2001. Trudy was born in Peking, China to Rev. Harry S. Martin and Rose Lombard Martin Congregational Missionaries in China. She graduated from North China American School before coming to the United States to attend Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. Trudy received her RN from Columbia Presbyterian Hospital (NYC), 1938, and acquired credits for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Columbia. She was head nurse at the Institute of Opthamology until 1942 when she was assigned to the 2nd General Hospital as a 1LT Army Nurse in England during the Battle of Britian. She landed on Utah Beach during the Normandy Invasion nursing in field hospitals that followed troops advancing through France during the Battle of the Buldge. She returned to the US in 1945 to marry her fiance of 3 years, CPT Maruice D. Triouleyre. They served together at Ft. Hayes and were the first couple discharged on the same day from the US Army. Trudy, with Maurice lived in Longmeadow, MA for 43 years and raised two children. She instructed and practiced nursing, worked 27 years at a local fine gift store, and was an active member at First Church of Christ. After the death of her husband she moved to Albuquerque where she attended Covenant Presbyterian Church, was active in church activities, made and hosted many friends, and enjoyed her grandsons. This last year she participated in the Roots and Wings Program which linked yesterday's veterans with today's youth. She is survived by her daughter, Helen Rancher and husband, Wayne of Albuquerque; son, Damien Triouleyre of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandsons, Todd and Scott Rancher, Chris and Shawn Cowles; great-grandson, Christopher Cowles; sister, Ruth Martin; brothers Lyman Martin, Harry S. Martin and wife, Leone; brother-in-law, Donald Phillips; numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., December 6, 2001 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria Blvd. NE. Her ashes will be interred along side her husband's in Longmeadow, MA. next spring. In lieu of flowers, Trudy asked that memorial contributions be made to the Youth Group at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
