Obituary for Orth

Eleanor Louise Greef Orth died suddenly on Sunday, December 2, 2001 in the hospital. Born July 19, 1915 in Fairfield, Iowa, she attended schools there including Parsons College graduating with honors in 1936. She accepted a position as Secretary to the State Superintendent of Education in Des Moines, Iowa. She married Clare Orth on December 26, 1938 and they settled in Chicago. They are parents of three children, Nancy Jo, who died in 1946 at the age of five, Patsy Duphorne of Albuquerque and Pamela Nelson of Foster City, California. The Orths lived in Des Moines, Iowa and Iowa City, Iowa prior to moving to Albuquerque in 1961 where Clare was in the insurance and real estate business. Mrs. Orth was employed by UNM in the Psychology Department office from 1962 until her retirement in 1980. She was proud to have been with the department during a period of rapid growth and recognition. She enjoyed the loyalty and friendship of many students and faculty. After her retirement she maintained a typing service. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Chapter L, PEO. She enjoyed a wide variety of interests including genealogy, music and fine art, her favorite artist being Monet. She was preceded in death by her daughter Nancy Jo, husband Clare in 1977, her sister Harriet, and parents Arthur and Helen Greef. Besides her daughters, she is survived by her son-in-law, Marvin Duphorne; grandson Dante Duphorne and his fiancé Julie Batman, cousins Paul Stoltz, Jean Pierson, Patti Poling, Charlotte Lamb, sister-in-law Olive Leonard, nieces Betsy Christensen and Jackie Leigh Scott, Maureen Leonard, nephews Richard Leonard, Orth Leonard, George Leonard, Jr., and all their families. Cremation has taken place and memorial services are pending. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association NM Affiliate, P.O.
