Obituary for Rutz

Alfred Rutz, 87, a resident of Florham Park, NJ, formerly of Rio Rancho, NM, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2001. Alfred was born in Switzerland, and had lived in Springfield, NJ before retiring to Rio Rancho. Alfred served in the US Army Medical Corps during WW II. He had been a Pharmaceutical Operator with the CIBA-GEIGY Pharmacy Company before retiring. He was a member of the International Chemical Workers Union #9, where he was president for three years. For 30 years he participated in the mixed seniors bowling league and was still bowling earlier this year. Fred was very involved in the American Legion, was Past Commander of the Springfield American Legion Post 228, Union County Commander of the American Legion, Post Commander Rio Rancho American Legion Post 118, Chef DeGare- Voiture 703 of the 40/ 8 in Albuquerque, Charter Member of the Rio Rancho Veterans Honor Guard; as a member of the American Legion, he was also involved with the Special Olympics and the American Legion Baseball. Even when he was not an officer, he was always an active part of the American Legion. He was a loving husband and devoted father. Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Ann (Simmons) Rutz in 1999; he is survived by his children, Carol A. Allen and husband, Matthew of Florham Park, NJ; Ellen B. Decker and husband, William of Laughlin, NV; John A. Rutz and wife, Linda of Sararita, AZ; Willis G. Rutz and wife, Barbara of Tobyhanna, PA; Wayne A. Rutz and wife, Nikki of Columbia, MD; grandchildren, Darren J. Allen and wife, Deborah; Kristen J. Allen; Keith J. Allen; Tracy D. Bogue and husband, Ryan, Kimberly Decker, David Kirts, Eric Kirts, Sara Anthony, Gregory J. Rutz and wife, Sarina, Jamie Rutz, Bridget Rutz, Adam Rutz and Brandon Rutz; great-grandchildren, Kayla Anthony, Jordan Anthony, and Cody Decker. A Visitation will be held on Monday, December 3, 2001 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the American Legion Service at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. Private entombment will follow on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to the Children and Youth program of the American Legion.
