Obituary for Gunn

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday December 15, 2001

Thelma Hazelhurst Gunn passed away on December 8, 2001 of complications from diabetes. She was born October 13, 1906 in Junction City, OR to Ed and Chole Bryant. She married Glenn C. Hazelhurst February 17, 1930 in Bend, OR and they had two daughters, Marty Heigh Lester and Phyllis Eskew Stearns. Glenn died in 1970. Thelma then traveled extensively with her good friend, Ruth Fetzner for the next few years and then moved to La Grande, OR to be with her daughter, Marty; her grandchildren, Wes, Bill and Kate Heigh, and her mother, Chloe Bryant. After Cloe's death, Thelma married Lawrence H. Gunn in 1976. They traveled all over Canada and North America. They settled down near Albuquerque on South Highway 14. Thelma's diabetes became brittle around 1992 and she and Larry joined households with her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Wilbur Stearns. Larry died in 1995. Thelma lived on with Wilbur and Phyllis until soon after her 95th birthday, when severe ill health put her in Manor Care. Thelma brought joy to everyone she met with her keen wit and sense of humor. She was a good friend. The family is thankful to God for the joy of Thelma's presence with them on this earth and are comforted by her continued life with our Lord in Paradise. Thelma is survived by Phyllis and Wilbur Stearns and Phyllis's children, Mike Eskew and wife, Patricia, and Jim Eskew and wife, Sydnie and Marty Lester and children, Wes Heigh and wife, Marcia, Bill Heigh and wife, Bobbie and Kate Saporta and husband, Victor; great-grandchildren, James Heigh, Chela Saporta, Nikki and Kelly Eskew and Ashley Eskew. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at First Christian Church, 10101 Montgomery Blvd., NE, Albuquerque on December 15, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. with James Ward, Minister, officiating.
