Obituary for Zachry

Violette Moore Zachry, 91, died Saturday, July 21, 2001. She is survived by her 12 nieces and nephews. Violette is preceded in death by her husband, W. Ray Zachry, of 42 years. Violette was born June 18, 1910 in Doster, Kansas, the fifth child born to Andrew Jackson and Mary Virginia Moore and the only girl in the family of seven brothers. She attended Central College in McPherson, Kansas and Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois. She received a Bachelor's Degree of Music Education at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas in 1936. She attended graduate school in music at Northwestern University the summers of 1938 and 1939. She taught music in the public school systems of Sedgwick (1936-1938) and Herington (1938 & 1942), Kansas and Dubuque, Iowa (1934-1944). Her talents as a visual artist and as a writer and recorder of history and family memories she discovered late in life. After her husband's death in 1987, and at the age of eventy-nine, she began painting with watercolors and oils. In 1992, at the age of eighty-two, she began writing ¯"The Most Difficult One", an autobiography, which she finished in 1997. Services will be held Thursday, July 26, 2001, 1:30 p.m, at First Presbyterian Church, Dr. Paul Debenport, officiating and assisted by The Reverend Myron White. Friends may visit French Mortuary ¯ Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Wednesday, July 25, 2001, from 4:00 till 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Richard Kuidis, Geoffrey Moore, David Moore, Philip Moore, Harold Crow, Bernard ¯Bernie¯ Moore.
