Obituary for Levenson

Samuel David Levenson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away Thursday, July 19, 2001 at the age of 81. Born in El Paso Mr. Levenson was a graduate of El Paso High School and a resident of Albuquerque, NM for 27 years. Mr. Levenson lived in Lubbock, Texas from 1948 to 1974 where he was President of S. D. Benson Co., President of Congregation Sha'areth Israel, and President of B'Nai Brith. He was a member of Temple Mt. Sinai in El Paso and Temple Albert in Albuquerque. He was founder of the Southwest National Banks in Albuquerque and Hobbs, NM. Mr. Levenson was Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Las Vegas, Las Vegas, NM and Carlsbad National Bank, Carlsbad, NM. He was Honored Benefactor of the United World College, Las Vegas, NM, on the board of Manzano Day School in Albuquerque, and on the Governor's Investment Counsel for the State of New Mexico. He also served as navigator in the Army Air Corps in World War II. Mr. Levenson is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Norma Scherotter Levenson; son, Michael Levenson and his wife, Daniella of Connecticut, son, Robert"Bob" Levenson and his wife, Toni of Lubbock, TX; daughter, Marlene Golden and her husband, Steve of El Paso, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Leah and Jerry Harris of California; brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Dick and Jean Scherotter; dear friends, Jim Zanios and David Hillson; and nine grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Sandia Hospice in Albuquerque, the Humane Society or Temple Mt. Sinai.
