Obituary for Ferguson

John Benjamin Ferguson, 57, a resident of Albuquerque, died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 15, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Ferguson. He is survived by his mother, Wanda Ferguson; a brother, Tom Ferguson; and a sister, Patricia Heydt, all of Albuquerque. Also surviving are nephews, Rick, Mike, Steve, and Nick Meleski; nieces, Corin Wood and Melanie Trujillo; great-nephews, Daniel, Andrew, and Jared Trujillo; great-nieces, Christee and Miranda Meleski and Aspen Meleski. John was born April 24, 1944, in Roswell, NM, and graduated from Roswell High School in 1962. After graduating in mathematics from New Mexico State University in 1966, he began working with computers for Boeing Company and Martin Marietta Corporation, and worked on NASA's Apollo and Viking Projects for space exploration of the Moon and Mars. In 1976, he returned to New Mexico, working at Los Alamos and Albuquerque in nuclear energy research for Dept. of Energy contractors until retiring in 1991. During and after these years, he was active in amateur music societies, playing both Celtic and Bluegrass music with various groups in Albuquerque. No formal service is planned. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at a later date in the family plot in Roswell. All friends of the family and especially John's music associates are invited to a celebration of John's life on Sunday, July 29, 2001 1:30 p.m. at 1129 Forest Road NW (off Rio Grande north of Alameda).
