Obituary for Maestas

Deacon Paul G. Maestas, passed away October 23, 2001 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born August 4, 1933 in Gilman, CO. He was a lifelong resident of New Mexico and a resident of Bernalillo for the last 20 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Emma; his children, Paul Simon Maestas, and wife, Debbie, Steven Maestas, his fiancé, Debbie Weh, Rebecca Maestas-Sanchez, and husband, Michael Sanchez; sister, Mae Roybal; brothers, John Maestas and wife, Nellie, Lee Maestas and wife, Belinda. His grandchildren are, Mateo, Emily, Andres, and Isaac Paul Sanchez, John-Paul and Maria-Elena Maestas. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Albuquerque in 1961. He served his country as a Marine stationed in Korea. He co-founded Mr. Tux Formal Wear in 1962 while coaching and teaching at St. Pius X High School. He later formed Paul Maestas & Associates Realty. In addition to his numerous business interests, he both farmed and ranched raising Register Angus and Llamas. He served as State Deputy of the Knights of Columbus and was a longtime member of council 4227 and the Lamy Corporation. In 1993, he was ordained as a Deacon for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe serving Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. He filled every waking moment of his life with positive activity. He devoted countless hours to the church and his community. His family was particularly proud of his service in the deaconate program. He touched many lives and made our community a better place to live. Services are as follows: Thursday, October 25, 2001 visitation at Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo on Friday, October 26, 2001 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Pallbearers will be Charles Maestas, Julius Duran, Leonard Duran, Henry Geissler, Leon Palmisano, and Isaac Martinez. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Multiple Myeloma Foundation. Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors is entrusted to the care of Mr. Maestas.
