Obituary for Ryan

Marian Buchella Ryan, 78, entered eternal rest Thursday morning, October 11, 2001 at her home in Silver City. She was born to Frank and Henrietta Buchella on March 21, 1923, in Murphy's, CA. Mrs. Ryan's childhood was spent in Minnesota and Nevada before she moved to Hurley. She graduated from Hurley High School in 1940. She then enrolled in Pomona College, CA. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Architecture and Architectural Design in 1944. She attended Columbia University in New York City in 1945. In 1945, Marian Buchella married Lt. Murray Ryan at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Silver City. Lt. and Mrs. Ryan were stationed in Germany from 1945 to 1948 with the Army of Occupation. They were then stationed at Ft. Lewis in Washington State. They returned to Silver City in 1949. Marian was by her husband's side during his 30 years in the NM State Legislature. No matter what the sacrifice, Marian was always there to support Representative Ryan and New Mexico. Marian was active in Silver City community affairs. She was instrumental in helping to start the Silver City Arts Council. She was on the Museum Board and took an active part in establishing The Main Street Project. She was a member of the Gila Regional Medical Auxiliary for many years. She was an active member of the Grant County Women's Organization, the 24-Club, the Wacky Club and her Sewing Club. Marian was preceded in death by two children, Judith and Kevin; her brother, Frank; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Buchella. She is survived by her husband, Murray; four children, Murray and wife, Debbie of Espanola, Kathleen Post of Silver City, Robin of Albuquerque and Kerry and wife, Heather of Silver City. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Nicholas, Derek and Gretchen Ryan, Judi Kendel and Patrick and Craig Post; and 22 beloved nieces and nephews. Rosary will be recited at Baca's Funeral Chapels at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2001 led by Dr. Gilbert Arizaga. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. preceding the Rosary. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Marcos O. Reyna at St. Francis Newman Center Church at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2001. Pallbearers will be Nicholas and Derek Ryan, Patrick and Craig Post, Jeff Buchella, and John Darling. Honorary Pallbearers are Dick Johnson, Dick Rhoades, Robert Johnson, Dr. Mike Coon, Dr. John Counts, Dr. Hal Hopson, G.X. McSherry, John Anderson, Raymond Sanchez, Jack Hill, Ernie Mills, Mo Ruddick, Van Rue Crawford, Senator Pete Domenici, Senator Jeff Bingaman, Rep. Joe Skeen and Doc Weiler. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kevin F.
