Obituary for Schoenfeld

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday November 07, 2001

Joseph Bernard Schoenfeld, 83, former president of Shaker Knitting Mills and Town and Country Sportswear, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2001, at Sandia Pavilion Hospice in Albuquerque. Mr. Schoenfeld was born and reared in Shaker Heights, OH, and attended Cleveland College. While in college, he started Shaker Knitting Mills. When a childhood illness would not permit him to serve in World War II, he set up a machine shop to produce top-quality bolts for America's Air Force. He and his wife, Pauline, retired to Albuquerque in 1979. Although he was always a hard worker, Joe Schoenfeld knew that his greatest accomplishment was his beloved family. He is remembered by his children as a gentle and loving man, a good husband and father, who lived his life always looking to the future. He enjoyed life, never complained of hardship, hard work or illness. He slipped gently from this life early on a beautiful autumn morning. Mr. Schoenfeld was a member of Congregation Albert. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pauline Goldman Schoenfeld; his children, Bette Goodman of Lorain, OH, Michelle Garber of Marina Del Rey, CA, and Jeffrey Schoenfeld of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Fern Goodman Gethin-Jones of Santa Fe and Larry and Michael Goodman of Lorain, OH; son-in-law, Ken Goodman; daughter-in-law, Deborah Schoenfeld; and sister, Marion Rich of Atlanta, GA. Graveside services were held Monday, 12:30 p.m., at Congregation Albert Cemetery at Fairview Memorial Park, with Rabbi Black officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions be made to the LAB Epilepsy Research Group, 4801 San Mateo Lane NE #170, 87109. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
