Obituary for Corkran

Ray Corkran, age 86, died at home Thursday, March 1, 2001 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Alberta; daughters, Rajeane Jack and husband, J.T, Nan Hamner and husband, Jay, all of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Kristy Waldraff and husband, Rick and Kara Nixon and husband, Steve, all of Abilene, TX; grandson, Jim Jack and wife, Kimberly of Arlington, TX; and six great-grandchildren, Michael Nixon, Christopher Nixon, Bradley Waldraff, Matthew Waldraff, Alex Jack and Avery Jack. He came to Albuquerque in 1935 to attend the University of New Mexico where he met Alberta Headley, his wife of 63 years. He was employed by the Employment Security Commission as Office Manager and Supervisor of Benefits. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in New Guinea and the Philippines. After his military service, he joined the Veterans Administration as Loan Examiner. He became Chief of the VA Loan Guaranty Program in 1960, and continued as Loan Guaranty Officer until his retirement in 1982, after 36 years of service. Commendations were received from the Mortgage Banking and Real Estate Organizations. Private Family Services will be held Sunday, with Rev. Fred Dorisse officiating. Ennichement will take place at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
