Obituary for Vandiviere

Mary Jane Rollo Gentry Vandiviere, age 82, passed away on September 22, 2001, in Ogden of causes incident to age. Mary was born on January 2, 1919 in Bisbee, Arizona to Austin and Mary Maude Summers Rollo. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Walter Greer. Mary married William A. Switzer on July 5, 1933 in St. Johns, Arizona. They divorced in 1969. He passed away on December 18, 1979. She married Robin Louis Elwood Gentry on October 31, 1970 in Mesa, Arizona. He passed away in 1981. She married John Darrel Lane Vandiviere on February 21, 1987 in Los Lunas, New Mexico. Mary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served three LDS missions to the Lamanites, a temple mission, and seven years of genealogical extraction work at home. She also served in the Primary, Relief Society president and counselor, choir director, organist and other positions in the LDS Church. Mary is survived by her husband, Darrel; one son, William Arnold (Beverly) Switzer of Murray, Utah; two daughters, Mary Lee (William) Marcum and Linda Ruth Ellis of Ogden, Utah; two sisters, Nellie Grace Summers of Boise, Idaho; Virginia Herring of Eagle Pass, Texas; and one brother-in-law, Ralph Gardner of Layton, Utah. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands, a son, Roy Evan Switzer, both parents, four brothers, two sisters, and a granddaughter. Mary loved her family with all of her heart and taught them to love each other through her sweet example. Her dedication to genealogy was a sure sign of her love for, and commitment to, her family here on earth and in the hereafter. Mary has compiled numerous family histories that will be treasured by her descendants for many years to come. She has always been a great inspiration to her family who love her dearly and will continue to hold a warm and beloved place in their hearts. All of Mary's relatives and friends will remember her when they see a bright, sweet smelling rose, or a tall, graceful iris, for she enjoyed tending her lovely garden. By her efforts, she made the world a more radiant, colorful and joyful place. Her handwork, her quilts, crocheted table clothes and other gifts of love will grace the homes of her loved ones and keep happy memories alive. Mary has inspired beauty, tenderness, patience and love in all those who knew her and she will be tenderly missed. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the River Parkway Ward, 1050 21st Street in Ogden, UT with Bishop Shawn Steed officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. and on Tuesday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church.
