Obituary for Griego

Veneranda"Bennie" G. Griego, a resident of Belen, peacefully passed away at her home in Belen while in the arms of her loving children, on Friday, January 26, 2001. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and made the Crusillo. She was very active with the Training School children, delighting them with her special baked goods. Veneranda was a Girl Scout leader in the Belen area and participated in all the events with her own girls. She drove a school bus for the Belen Public Schools for over 27 years. Veneranda cared for her students in a variety of ways and always shared her unique love."Father Steve Sanchez used to ride in my bus and I could always see the good and special person that God had made him. I felt so honored and blessed that God put Father Steve in my life. I could see the Holiness in him," recalled Vereranda's children as they remembered their mother's words. Veneranda was preceded in death in 1993 by her loving husband of 58 years, Willie; one daughter, Florance Diana; her parents, Samuel Garcia and Perfelia Marquez; two grandchildren, Wayne and Gabriel Cordova; two sisters, Telesfora Garcia and Angelina Aragon. She is survived by her eight loving children, Marie and her husband, Greg Silva; Becky Garcia; Rosalie and her husband, Alfonso Peralta; Wilfred Griego and his wife, Susanne; Derla Griego; Katherine Diana Griego; Sandra Griego; and Veronica Matsu. She is also survived by her 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Army and Sam Garcia; two sisters, Lucy Garcia and Dolores and her husband, Jim Hoffman; and by many loving nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, 5:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be recited on Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen. Interment will follow at the Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her loving grandchildren. Vereranda will be missed by all who knew and loved her. May God Bless You, Mom.
