Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday February 21, 2003

Longtime Roy, NM, high school teacher Juliavieve Gambrel Gardner died February 18, 2003 in her home in Cedar Park, TX. Mrs. Gardner was born in Roy, NM March 13, 1919. After graduating from Highland University in Las Vegas, NM she taught school in Tatum and later in Springer. In 1945, she married Buster E. Gardner in Las Vegas. The couple moved to Raton, NM where sons, Larry and Lloyd were born and then to Albuquerque where Kenneth was born. Juliavieve wanted a more personal school setting for her boys, so the family moved back to Roy. The family ranched and Juliavieve taught business and commerce. As high school counselor, she helped many students find a way to go to college. She continued ranching and teaching after her husband died in 1963. Her teaching career spanned 36 years and touched the lives of countless individuals. In 1976, Juliavieve reluctantly retired from teaching and ranching, and singing in the church choir. She left her friends in Roy and moved to Lubbock and last year Cedar Park, to be closer to her sons. Juliavieve is survived by her three sons, Larry and Lloyd of Cedar Park and Kenneth of Long Branch, TX; her brother, James Gambrel of Ordway, CO; a cousin, Julia C. Craddock of Albuquerque; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a infant sister, Genevieve; her father, Lloyd Gambrel, Sr.; her mother, Lula Woods Gambrel; and in 1992, her brother, Lloyd Gambrel, Jr. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Roy.
