Obituary for Telles

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday February 15, 2003

Albert P. Telles, 82, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Josephine; his three children, Phyllis Torres of Albuquerque; Kathleen Swisstack and husband, Tom Swisstack of Rio Rancho and Bert Telles of San Diego, Calif.; two grandchildren, Anna Marie Dykeman and husband, Kenny Dykeman; and James Martinez; and one great-grandson, Maximillian Telles Dykeman. Albert was born May 1, 1920 in Bent, NM, and graduated from Tularosa High School. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 and, during flight training in Denton, Texas, endured a plane crash just prior to earning his pilot's wings. However, he never let his injuries slow him down. After a 15-month hospital recovery, Albert began work with the Internal Revenue Service in Albuquerque and began his studies at the University of Albuquerque. He married Josephine shortly after on April 21, 1946, and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Albert worked for the Internal Revenue Service in various capacities for 34 years, retiring in 1977 as head of the Audit Division. Following his retirement, he devoted his time to his family: coaching baseball and supporting his grandchildren's sports teams and activities, practicing his handyman and landscaping skills, fishing and hunting during his leisure. Albert is remembered as a loving, respected and devoted family man, and he will be dearly missed. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at 6:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church, 8901 Candelaria Rd. NE. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Montoya, Sr., Eric Baca, Ben Maestas, Louie Montoya, Charlie Romero, and Bert Lovato. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Alzheimers Foundation, 8100 Mountain Rd. NE, Suite 102, 87110. French Mortuary 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE 823-9400
