Obituary for Mccallum

Robert McCallum, June 29, 1911 - February 11, 2003. Robert McCallum passed away Tuesday at Mary Grecly Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Glenn McCallum. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Bruce Landesman of Salt Lake City, Utah; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Virginia McCallum of Ames, Iowa; four grandchildren, Michael and Rachel Landesman (Salt Lake City) and Kendall and Ethan McCallum (Ames); and several nieces and nephews. Robert was born on a farm outside of Guide Rock, Nebraska where he graduated from Guide Rock High School. He received a B.A. in Physics from Carleton College (Northfield, Minnesota) and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska. Prior to World War II, he worked in oil exploration in the western United States and the electronics industry in California. He joined the Marine Corps in the war and served as a radar instructor. In 1943, he married Grace Roberta Glenn and the family lived in Pasadena, CA and a Fort Hood, TX before moving to Albuquerque in 1953. In Albuquerque, Robert was a member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratory until he retired. In 2001, following the death of his wife in 2000, Robert moved to the Green Hills Retirement Community in Ames, Iowa. Robert will be interred in Albuquerque next to Grace, his wife of 57 years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Manzano del Sol in Albuquerque or to the Green Hills Retirement Community in Ames.
