Obituary for Ortiz

Maria Ursula Ortiz, beloved mother and devoted child of God, left to be with her Blessed Father on Monday, February 3, 2003. She was born to Maria Ursula Garcia Lucero and Abel Lucero in Los Luceros, NM on January 29, 1920. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Candido Ortiz; sisters, Adelaida Salazar and Odelia Salazar; brothers, Emilio, Luis, and Claude Lucero. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Reeder of Lakewood, CO, Belinda Crosby and spouse, Robert, Carol Schuster and spouse, Gary; and son, Don Jose Ortiz, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Daniel Reeder of Denver, CO, Deborah Ellison of Lakewood, CO, Bryan Crosby of Jacksonville, FL, Carleen Shannon of San Antonio, TX, Scott Schuster of Chicago, IL and Kerri Schuster and Steven Schuster both of Albuquerque; five great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Lucero and wife, Emily; and sisters, Alice Gomez of Santa Fe and Delia Sedillo and spouse, John of Lakewood, CO; sisters-in-law, Margaret Lucero of Rio Rancho and Virginia Lucero of Santa Fe; and numerous nieces and nephews. During WWII, Ursula worked at Kirtland AFB. She made her career of 32 years with the U.S. Postal Service where she received numerous awards for her superior accomplishments. Ursula was instrumental in establishing the Postal Credit Union during the earlier years of her career. She retired from the Post Office as Personnel Supervisor in 1979. For as long as she was able, Ursula was an active member of the Blue Army Rosary Guild of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America where she was named Catholic Daughter of the Year in 1990 for her generous work at the Barrett House. Ursula had a great love for God and her family and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to her loving and devoted caregivers, Mary Fierro and Mary Gutierrez. Rosary will be recited Thursday, February 6, 2003, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 7, 2003, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Daniel Reeder, Bryan Crosby, Scott Schuster, Steven Schuster, Kirk Ellison, and Jason Shannon. Friends may visit one hour prior to the Rosary. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Lou Gehrig's Disease Foundation, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Assoc., (ALS), 21021 Ventura Blvd. Suite 321, Woodland Hills, CA.
