Obituary for Russell

Elvert Vernard (Russ) Russell, 72, a resident of Moriarty, passed away on January 24, 2003. He was born in North Carolina on October 6, 1931. He married Ada R. Smith in 1952 and joined the US Navy. He served during the Korean Conflict and after receiving an honorable discharge, made his home first in Hatch, then in Las Cruces, NM. He and Ada divorced after 16 years of marriage. He later married Sylvia J. Jones. He retired from the NM State Highway Dept. after 30 years of service. While working for the highway dept., he lived in many places around the state including Grants and Moriarty. He had been volunteering at The Bethel Storehouse in Moriarty for the past six months. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; two daughters, Lori Poe and husband, Robert, Lynnette Giesler and husband, David; stepdaughters, Janet Kight, Molly Riggs and husband, Don; son, Brantley Russell and wife, Dawn; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He has many friends and family members who loved him and who will miss him very much. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 31, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 10000 Candelaria NE.
