Obituary for Devries

Jeanette S. DeVries died at her home on January 12, 2003 at 72 years of age. Jeanette is survived by her children, Jennifer, Karen, and Clark Omholt; and her four grandchildren, Elise and Lexi Omholt, Zachary Roberts, and Sasha Omholt, all of Marin County, California. She is also survived by her brother, Fred Selby, of New York City. Jeanette spent her early childhood in Baden-Baden, Germany, and moved to the U.S. at age eight. Her family settled in the Philadelphia area, and she later went on to earn a Bachelors degree in Journalism from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1953, she married Ray Omholt, with whom she raised a family. In 1975, she married Ralph DeVries, and moved to Kennett Sq., PA. Jeanette was an avid horticulturist, and served as a garden guide at Longwood Gardens and the Winterthur Museum. Jeanette and Ralph, who passed away in 2002, moved to Albuquerque in 1994. He was active with the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque and the Newcomers Club. She cherished a good game of tennis and walks in the Sandia mountains. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a dear friend to many. A Memorial Service celebrating Jeanettes life will be held at 3:00 on Sunday Jan. 19 at the First Unitarian Church, 3701 Carlisle Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, (505) 884-1801. Jeanette's family requests that any memorial donations be made to the First Unitarian Church in her name.
