Luis C. Martinez, age 87, a resident of Albuquerque formerly of El Paso, TX, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2003 after a long illness. Luis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lily Martinez of the family home; his son, Robert and wife, Gloria of Albuquerque; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Simona of San Antonio, TX, and Eugenia of Decatur, IN. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Luis Jr., who passed away August 23, 1998. Luis was born in Del Rio, TX on April 4, 1915; he retired as a foreman after 30 years with the Phelps Dodge Copper Refinery in El Paso, TX; and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in El Paso. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 16, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Ysleta, TX. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
