James A. May, 84, a resident of Belen and formerly of Portales, NM, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2003. Born in Portales on December 16, 1918 to James L. and Lula Anderson May. He was a member of the Belen Christian Church. James proudly served his country with the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the VFW and the DAV. He worked for Eastridge Bowling Palace as a bowling alley mechanic, retiring in 1981. Preceding him in death was his father and mother; and one sister, Winniferd Smith in 2002. James is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Elizabeth of Belen; one niece, Donna Shiplet; two great-nieces, Jennifer and Keri Shiplet, all of Albuquerque; one sister-in-law and her two daughters, Linda Sikes, Kelly, and Christina Sikes, and other family members. Family request that donations be made in James' name to the New Mexico Christian Children's Home at 1356 N.M 236, Portales, NM 88130-9411. A Funeral Service will be officated by Pastor Jim Wilburn at the Belen Christian Church on Friday, March 7, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. A Graveside Service will be held at the Portales Cemetery in Portales, New Mexico on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen, NM 87002.
