Obituary for Beckmann

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday March 06, 2003

Richard Conrad Beckmann, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, died February 28, 2003, as a result of injuries sustained in an accident while on business in Hong Kong. He is survived by his wife, Susan; his daughters, Kristin Erickson and her husband, Kevin of San Rafael, California, and Jill Beckmann; his son, Matthew Beckmann; stepmother, Betty Beckmann of Titusville, Florida; sisters, Mary Dunger, Linda Whitaker, Kathy Hazelwood, Kelly Lawson, and Pam Bopp; and brothers, Jim Smith and Mickey Smith. Preceding him in death were his father and mother, Harold Beckmann and Martha Smith. Rick was born in St. Louis, Missouri, September 4, 1942. He received his bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla and his masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He retired from Sandia National Labs in 2001. At the time of his death, he was employed by Learning Tree International. Rick had a zest for life and enjoyed many activities with family and friends, especially skiing and Lobo basketball. This is a sad time for those who knew and loved him, but it is in part mitigated by the knowledge that Rick was doing what he wanted and enjoying life right to the end. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2003, 11:00am, at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona St., NE. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting donations to the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico.
