Obituary for Evanko

Margaret Ann (Boesen) Evanko, April 27, 1924 - March 17, 2003. The oldest of eight children, Margaret Ann Boesen was born in Des Moines, Iowa on April 27, 1924. Margaret grew up in the flower business. Boesen the Florist has been a household name in Des Moines and surrounding areas for more than eighty years. She attended St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines and Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. Margaret completed her internship in physical therapy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and soon after came to Albuquerque's Lovelace Clinic where she served for six years as a highly respected physical therapist. In 1949, she met her husband, Bill and they married in 1951. Margaret was the loving and devoted mother of eight children. She was an active member of Annunciation Parish since 1961 and enjoyed singing with the choir. Margaret enjoyed playing bridge and visiting with her many friends. Margaret loved people and always gave freely of herself. She had a wonderful, infectious laugh and a most beautiful smile. Margaret was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1987, but survived it despite incredible odds. She spent the last 10 years of her life at the Manor Care Heights Nursing Home suffering from Alzheimers disease and, most recently, pneumonia. Her parents, Theodore L. Boesen and Elizabeth Boesen, along with her brothers, Bill, Dick and Ted, preceded Margaret in death. Margarets sons, Michael and Eric (Buzz) also preceded her in death. Margaret is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Bill, of 52 years; son, Tony and wife, Marge Devon of Albuquerque; daughter, LeeAnne and husband, Jim Smith and granddaughters, Alie and Lauren Smith of Albuquerque; son, Mark and wife, Debbie of Albuquerque; daughter, Teresa Evanko and husband, Joe Bilello and granddaughters, Zoe and Anna Bilello of Muncie, IN; son, Greg Evanko and Peggy McDonnell of Albuquerque; and son, Steve and wife, Lin of Seattle, WA. Survivors also include, Margaret's sister-in-law, Patsy Boesen of Des Moines, IA; brother, John Boesen and wife, Janet of Boone, IA; brother, Jim Boesen and wife, Cathy of Des Moines, IA; sister, Mary McAuliffe and husband, Bob of Plymouth, MN; sister, Betty Dixon and husband, Terry of Las Vegas, NV; along with many nieces and nephews, dear friends and neighbors. Rosary will be recited Thursday, March 20, 2003 at 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday morning, March 21, 2003, at 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont NE. Cremation will follow the services. A reception/brunch in the Annunciation Community Center, sponsored by the Annunciation Womens Guild will immediately follow the mass.
