Obituary for Gibbons

James Brown Gibbons, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1955, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Josephine Gibbons of Albuquerque; daughter, Flori Beauchesne and husband, David, of Corrales, NM; grandchildren Mariah Gibbons and Joel Gibbons of Albuquerque, NM; daughter-in-law, Maryellen Gibbons, brother-in-law, Major General Paul Patch, USAF (Ret.) and wife Rita and devoted friends, Margaret Muller, Glenn Muller, Gary Muller, Diane Ledford, Irene and Johnny Gonzales, Uncle Gonzales and Jimmy Silva. He was preceded in death by his son, James Paul Gibbons in March of 2000. Mr. Gibbons was born in Oklahoma City, OK and graduated from Oklahoma City Central High School in 1935. He worked for the Biltmore Hotel in Oklahoma City from 1938 to 1941 as a radio technician. He held a commercial broadcaster's license and diploma in television operation and maintenance. Mr. Gibbons was stationed in the European Theater during WWII serving in the Army Air Corp. He worked with the AAF and Royal Air Force in England in a radar-photographic section. Mr. Gibbons met and married Josephine Patch in Denver, CO and they were married in 1945. He worked at Lowry Air Force Base and taught photography bomb navigation. Mr. and Mrs. Gibbons moved to Albuquerque in 1955 where he worked for Sandia National Labs until his retirement in 1979. He owned and operated Gibbons Camera Service until 2002. He was a member of SPT, a photography publication and a long time member of Hoffmantown Church. Mr. Gibbons was a loving husband, beloved father and grandfather and a friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Services will be held Monday, March 31, 2003, 1:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles, Col. USAF (Ret.), officiating. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday, March 31, 2003, at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, from 12:30 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Albuquerque Academy for a student scholarship fund, 6400 Wyoming Blvd. NE, 87109. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500
