Obituary for Vigil

Virginia Vigil, 79, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully just before the break of dawn on April 12, 2003 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ceferino Vigil, daughter, Kathy Vigil, son, Gerry Vigil, brothers Trinidad and Charles Baca, sister, Beatrice Estrada. She was born January 4, 1924 in Aguilar, Colorado to Marcelina Martinez and Lorenzo Baca. As a young lady, she moved to California to work in the shipyards as a welder during WWII. She met her husband, Ceferino, after returning home and they were soon wed. They moved to Albuquerque in 1950 where they raised their large family. Virginia loved to cook and bake and sew. She took great pride in her work and made the best bread, pies, and cakes. An excellent seamstress, she made her own beautiful clothes. She could look at something she liked and make a pattern in her head. She also worked with a furrier at altering fur coats for a short time. She especially enjoyed dancing and music and loved to jitterbug. She was a very loving and caring mother with a wonderful and crazy sense of humor. We'll miss you so much, Mama. Virginia is survived by her sisters, Dolores Baca and Angie Martinez and husband Eloy of Denver, Colorado, daughter, Jeanne Fernandez and husband Po of Albuquerque, son Richard and wife Elena of Albuquerque, daughter Diane (Yonni) Fernandez and husband Rafael of Corrales, son Fernando Vigil and wife Corinne of Albuquerque, 10 grandchildren, Dr. Erika Fernandez Monteith & husband, Jim, Ivana Bononcini and husband, Eddie, Angela Fernandez, Julie Cabral & husband, Richard, Francisco & Mary Ann Fernandez, April Fernandez, Luis Fernandez, Jacob Vigil, John Vigil and Joseph Vigil, 5 great grandchildren, Ariel, Maya, Richie, Jessie, and Zachary and numerous other family members, nieces and nephews. The family is sincerely grateful to the staff of the Laurel Heights nursing home for their professional and personal care, and the Pace Program and Zia Hospice for their support. A Rosary will be held at Aspen Funeral Alternatives Chapel on Monday April 14th at 3:30 p.m. Viewing will be from 3-5:00 p.m. Announcement for the place and time of the Mass will be made at the Rosary Monday afternoon and also in the Monday addition of the Tribune.
