Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday April 16, 2003

Byron"By" Harris, a 40 year resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday night April 13, 2003 in Largo, Florida. He was 85. Everyone liked By Harris. His infectious optimism and unselfish kindness touched everyone who met him. He was the founder and principal employee of By Harris Sales, an automotive manufacturer's representative company, traveling New Mexico, Texas and Arizona until he retired at age 80. He loved his church, St. Paul's Methodist, singing in the choir and socializing in a Christian atmosphere. He had a passion for golf, waiting in his later years for his advancing age to match his golf score. He was a zealous football fan of the teams of his alma mater, the University of Michigan. He served in the United States Navy during WWII, retiring as skipper of the U.S.S. Osmond Ingram after tours in both the Atlantic and Pacific. He is survived by his wife, Emmy; sons, Byron Harris, Jr, of Dallas, and Dr. Chris Harris of Gig Harbor, Washington; and stepdaughters, Sally Jo Klein of Louisville, Joann Schilling of North Canton, Ohio and Rita Myers of Powell, Ohio. He has seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. His first wife, Harriett, passed away in 1999. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at St Paul's Methodist Church in Albuquerque. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the American Lung Association.
