Obituary for Castleman

Verna Marcia Stueber-Castleman, passed away on¯ Friday, April 11, 2003 after a short illness. She is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Joan and Don McGinnis, John and Camille Stueber, Janice and Bill Pollard, Janine and Tom Carter, Judy and Joe Chiado, Eva and Joe Davalos, Lawrence Castleman, III; and was grandmother to 16; great-grandmother of 17; and great-great grandmother of five. Verna was born on April 23, 1920 in South Chicago, Illinois. The Great Depression changed her life forever, but the memories of living on the farm in Fairview, Illinois with her parents and two brothers were a great source of her storytelling to her children and grandchildren. Verna lead a busy life. She was an avid gardener and even at the age of 82, she could be seen inside and outside her home in TorC caring for her posies. In her years previous to her 12 year residency in TorC, her home was in Albuquerque where she raised her children on a farm in the Northwest Valley. The respect and love of this simple yet intelligent, brave woman has been felt by any and all who have met her and were acknowledged by her simple"Hi Honey." The same people who mourn her passing are joyous in the privilege of having had her in their lives. The Celebration of Verna's life will be held at the home of Judy & Joe Chiado, 1205 N. Riverside Drive, Truth or Consequences, NM from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2003. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a contribution be made in Verna's name to the Amber Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund % Washington Mutual Bank, 1245 Grand Avenue, Arroyo Grande, California¯ 93420.
