Obituary for Cummins

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday April 18, 2003

Dr. Ben Cummins died suddenly Tuesday night, April 15, 2003 in his home. He will always be the much-loved husband of Ann; the father of Martha and Julia; the grandfather of Ben, Julian, Ryan, and Simon; and the loved and respected father-in-law of Derrick and Michael. Ben grew up in Texas, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas in Austin and his MD at Baylor Medical School in Houston. He moved to Minnesota, where he met his wife Ann, to complete his residency in Psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic. He was honored there with a fellowship in Child Psychiatry. He was a faculty member at the University of New Mexico for 23 years and also served as the training director for child and adolescent fellows. He spent his career as he spent his life, selflessly helping others. There was no problem too great nor need too small to escape Ben's attention. From a single flower to an entire symphony, from his closest family to the most distant stranger, Ben gave his all to help. Thanks Ben, for everything. A Memorial gathering will be held Saturday, April 19th, 11:00 a.m. at the UNM Alumni Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. Please send checks made out to NMSO with In Memoriam Dr. Ben M. Cummins in the Memo line to: P.O. Box 30208, Albuquerque, NM, 87190-0208.
