Obituary for Maxon

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday April 20, 2003

Stewart Maxon loved his family, enjoyed running his own business and living life well. Even when he began experiencing health problems, Stewart wasn't deterred from living life fully and on his terms. He lived in Albuquerque for almost 25 years before moving to Oceanside, CA to retire with his wife Karren in 2001. Stewart Maxon was born and raised in New York City where he ran a highly successful plumbing business working on many of New York City's landmark buildings. He lived in the New York area until he and his family moved to Albuquerque in 1979 where he set up shop as a plumber in a few ventures before opening Steward's Plumbing with his son Eric. Steward's Plumbing became a success and a standard on the Albuquerque trade scene. After Stewart's retirement in 2001, his son Eric took over the reins and continues to run the business that Stewart so enjoyed. In the late 1980's Stewart suffered severe health problems resulting in pulmonary dysfunction. Although he led a productive and fulfilling life, it was this lung damage that caused many of the health problems of recent years and ultimately his death. After his divorce from his first wife Sheila, Stewart lived the single life until he met and married Karren Wilson in 1995. In the short seven years they had been married, Stewart and Karren had seen the marriages of all five of their children, experienced the birth of four grandchildren and the inclusion of two step grandchildren into their family. Even when Stewart's health took a turn for the worse, he didn't complain about his health issues and always looked forward to running his"retirement business" The Postal Depot located in Escondido, CA. Never to be idle, Stewart bought the business so he'd have a place to visit with people and keep himself occupied through retirement. Stewart died on March 30, 2003 in Tri-Cities Hospital in Oceanside, California. Stewart is survived by his beloved wife, Karren of Escondido, CA; son, Eric Maxon and his wife, Marina, of Albuquerque; daughters, Dori Maxon and husband, Keith Gallion, of Richmond, CA, and Lisa Hendrickson and her husband, Felix, of NY, NY; stepdaughters, Kim Perkins and husband, Rex, of Chandler, AZ and Kris Lee and husband, Cody, of Albuquerque. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Yamanaka for his excellent care, compassion and understanding of Stewart and his pulmonary condition during the last two years of his life. Funeral services were held at the McLeod Mortuary in Escondido, CA on April 2. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the American Lung Association. Stewart's love of family is an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He will be missed.
