Robert Howard Gleasner, 88, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2003 in Albuquerque. Formally of T or C and Cuba, NM., Robert was born, June 3, 1914 to Julia and John Gleasner in Albuquerque. He graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1936. Robert pursued a career in the shipyards of California. During World War II he supervised the building of military ships and well as the first icebreakers for the US Navy; one which was later given to Russia. He later joined the Navy and was in charge of desalination on a troop transporter. After the war Robert came back to Albuquerque where he had a cabinet shop in the south valley for many years. Robert then moved up around Cuba, NM and helped establish Deer Lake Estates, where he built numerous cabins. After many years of living year round at Eureka Ranch, he and Lois started wintering in T or C. They purchased a place with 30 some pecan trees, which he took great pride in. He was able to maintain them up until this past year, and in fact he has the unofficial record of catching and relocating the most raccoons in one year, more than anyone else in T or C. His story telling of his escapades will be greatly missed. Robert is preceded in death by his wife Lois, two brothers, and a sister. He is survived by his children, Robert J. Gleasner of Albuquerque; Jo Ann Mickelson and husband Alan of Tijeras; Julie Ann Smith and husband Doug of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Robyn and Cheryl Gleasner, Barbara and Jessica Smith. Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2003 at 10:00AM, at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th NW Albuquerque, 343-8008.
