Obituary for Benko

Douglas C. Benko, 53, died in Pass Christian, Mississippi, May 3, 2003. Doug was a long-term resident of Tijeras, where he designed, created, and sold beautiful sculptures of brass, copper, and steel. He was also well known throughout the Southwest for his whimsical painted metal sculptures. Several New Mexico businesses and homes contain his architectural art, such as gates, windows, counters, tables, and stools, Doug is survived and sorely missed by his daughter, Julie Skye Livermore-Brasher and her husband James of Ft. Bragg, NC; ;his son, Dane Benko of Tijeras; his parents, Carl and Elizabeth Benko of Highspire, PA; ;his former spouse Kelli Livermore of Tijeras; two brothers Bob and Greg; and numerous loving friends. A memorial gathering will be held at the family home in Tijeras on Saturday, May 24, at 2:00 p.m.
