Obituary for Bannowsky

Mary Irene Bannowsky, 84, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 12 years, passed away Friday, May 23, 2003. Irene was born Monday, March 24, 1919 in Farmington, NM to Rosa Belle Stallings, nee Warren, and Lorenzo Stallings who homesteaded in the Waterflow and Fruitland areas of New Mexico. After graduating from high school in 1937, she attended Mt. St. Joseph Jr. College in Maple Mount, Kentucky where she earned her AA degree. In 1942 she attended New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM where she earned a B.A. degree. In 1969, she received her Med from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK. Irene taught at Caney High School in Caney, OK and Tse'Bit'ai Middle School in Shiprock, NM for many years. Irene is survived by her daughter, Frances Bannowsky; son, Lovell Alonzo"L.A." Bannowsky, III and wife, Geraldine McBroom of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Alyson Munday and husband, Eric of Seattle WA, John Bannowsky of Kihei, Maui, HI, Chris Bannowsky and his wife, Maggie, of Steamboat Springs, CO; great granddaughter, Grace Mundy; sister, Frances Mahoney of Tucson, AZ; nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, John Laurence Bannowsky; grandson, Simon Smith; sister, Pat Ryan and brothers, Warren and W.H. Stallings. Irene was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Rosary will be recited Wednesday, May 28, 2003, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 29, 2003, 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Road NE, with Fr. William Pruett, Celebrant. Private Ennichement will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Irene's name to Presbyterian Hospice, 8100 Constitution Pl. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110 or to The Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, 8001 Cummings Rd., Maple Mount, KY 42356-9999.
