Obituary for Gallegos

Manuel A. Gallegos, 79, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, May 26, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Lydia Gallegos; sons, Candido Gallegos and wife, Frances of Salt Lake City, UT and Robert V. Gallegos and wife, Cyndy of Albuquerque; daughter, Gloria E. Best of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Donald Gallegos and Anthony Gallegos, both of Salt Lake City, UT, Ronald V. Gallegos and Raymond V. Gallegos, both of Albuquerque and Aleta Best DaSilva , M.D. and husband, Robert of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Marvene Vigil of Oakdale, CA and Mabel Crane of Denver, CO; brother, David E. Gallegos, of Santa Fe; aunts and uncles, Margaret Romero and husband, Am, J.P. Gallegos and wife, Louisa, all of Denver, CO, Becky Ortega of Albuquerque, Estrella Ortega of Alamosa, CO and Ruth Ortega of Santa Fe; beloved cousins, Viola Hininger and Solema Newton; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mr. Gallegos was born in Center, Colorado, to Manuel and Lila Gallegos. He grew up in Capulin, CO. and Alamosa, CO. Mr. Gallegos graduated from Menaul High School in 1942. He volunteered for Navy duty and served aboard a Navy destroyer, USS Longshaw, and was in nine Naval battles. Mr. Gallegos survived the sinking of his ship in Okinawa. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Gallegos attended University of New Mexico under the GI Bill of Rights, and received a degree in Business Administration in 1950. He was employed with the IRS 20 years and retired in 1979 as Chief of the Review Staff. He started a Tax Consulting business in 1979 and retired after 23 years. He was a lifetime member of El Buen Samaritano Methodist Church. Services will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Pastor Jesus Bermudez officiating. Private interment will take place. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Thursday, one hour prior to service. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333
