Obituary for Langford

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday June 03, 2003

Jane Langford died peacefully in Bozeman Deaconess Hospital on Friday, 30 May 2003. Born 12 June 1925 in Bath Township, Ohio, and the middle of five children to Gertrude and Basil Hutchens, she was raised and educated in Fairborn, Ohio, graduating as valedictorian of her 1943 Bath Township High School class. Jane was employed as a secretary at the Wright Field military base immediately after graduating high school and it was there that she met the love of her life, Hoyt Langford. They were married shortly before he was transported with his Army unit to Europe. After the war they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where Hoyt was employed by Phillips Petroleum and there raised their family. Jane was a loving mother and homemaker who never worked outside her home until her two children began their college education, at which time she took a position for 11 years as a receptionist for a pediatrician. After a brief two-year transfer to Anchorage, Alaska, Hoyt retired and they moved to Bozeman, MT, in 1981. They moved to Albuquerque, NM, in 1991, to help care for Hoyt's sister, and returned in 1996 to Bozeman, a place they had both come to love. An avid bridge player, Jane cultivated many friendships around those tables over the years and she developed many close friendships in the condominium area where she lived. Hoyt preceded her in death in April 2000, and with the help of family and her many friends, near and far away, she fought a courageous struggle against ovarian cancer. Jane is survived by her children, Cheryl (Andy) Anderson of Albuquerque, NM, and Thad, (Terry) Langford of Bozeman; a brother, Donald Lee, (Ann) Hutchens of Bloomingsburg, OH; three sisters, Eleanor Whetstine and Sovilla Turley of Fairborn, OH, and Phyllis, (Bob) Barton of Harrah, OK; and grandchildren Eric, (Gentry) Anderson of Laramie, WY, Tyler Anderson of Albuquerque, NM, Chad Langford of Bozeman, and Rachel Langford (and husband, Nathan Junkert) of Portland, OR. Memorial service and reception following will be in First Presbyterian Church, Bozeman, MT, at 10:00 a.m on Saturday, 7 June. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Grace Church/Mission Fund, 6901 San Antonio NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109; First Presbyterian Church/Music Memorial, 26 W. Babcock, Bozeman, MT 59715; and Bozeman Deaconess Hospital Foundation, 915 Highland Blvd., Bozeman, MT 59715
