Obituary for Curtis

Wesley Edward Curtis, age 84, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 20, 2003. He was born on August 25, 1918 to the late Edward James and Annie Mabel C. (Walker). Survivors include sons, Mark Curtis of Albuquerque, Kipp Curtis of Albuquerque; grandson, Kristofer Curtis of Albuquerque; great grandson, Kelton Curtis of Albuquerque. Wesley's many accomplishments include; being a student in Dunkirk, NY Coll. Center, 1936 -1937, U. Buffalo, 1937 B.S., Alfred U. 1940, married Virginia Janet Austin, May 29, 1949; he was a Chemist with Atlas Feldspar Corp 1940-1942; research fellow Alfred U., 1942-1944; research assoc. Woods Hole Oceanographic Instn, 1944-1947; physicist U.S. Army Ballistics Research Lab, Aberdeen, MD, 1947-1956; system analyst Tech Ops. Inc, Ft. Belvoir, VA, 1956-1967; Sr. Operations Analyst Dikewood Corp Albuquerque, 1967-1983. Wesley was a U.S. Naval Ordnance Development award recipient 1947 Mem. Ops Research Soc. Am., AAAS, Sigma Xi. He was a member of the Elks, a volunteer for the Nat'l Atomic museum for many years, VITA Tax Prep Volunteer for shut-ins and indigent persons. Wesley was an avid world traveler, his children remember the many spur of the moment road trips. He traveled to Belize, Central America and around the world at least twice. Wesley traveled the last US flight from Cuba in 1959 before Castro took over. Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2003 in the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary.
