Obituary for Birrell

Robert Gene Birrell, Sr., 77, a native and lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003. Mr. Birrell is survived by his wife of 55 years Violet Sissy Birrell of Albuquerque; son, Gene Birrell and wife, Dianna; daughter, Sandy Smith and husband, Carl; Nancy Cox and husband, Robbie; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Justin, Brian, Diana, Chad, Ashley, Victoria, and Lane, who knew him as Papa Bear. Mr. Birrell served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. Gene worked for Sandia National Laboratories and Gulton Industries & Jet Electronics. Mr. Birrell started his own Electronics business in Albuquerque. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and enjoyed restoring vintage cars. Memorial Services will be held at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel Monday, 12:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
