Obituary for Ikelman

Leeta Mae Ikelman, 94, died Thursday, July 24, 2003 at the Enchantment Senior Home where she had been lovingly cared for since September 2002. Born Leeta Mae Garrett in 1908 in Indian Creek, TX, Leeta Mae experienced the birth of most of modern technology, but always cherished the simplicity of life. She loved to share stories of her life with her family, and meticulously chronicled her early life in photo albums. She married Edward S. Ikelman in 1941, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, and spent years traveling the world with her husband and son. They came to Albuquerque in 1955. She continued exploring the world well into her 80's, once again chronicling her adventures in volumes of scrapbooks and photo albums. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Garrett Ikelman and wife, Sandy of Albuquerque; two grandsons, Stefan K. Ikelman of Dallas, TX and Daniel E. Ikelman of West Palm Beach, FL; and their mother, Margaret Cover of Bent, NM. Leeta Mae was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where she enjoyed many longtime friendships with parishioners. Leeta Mae was a substitute teacher with APS for twenty-five years, as well as being a lecturer for Weight Watchers for over twenty-years. Services will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2003, 11:00 a.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with Roland McGregor officiating.
