Obituary for Harriss

Bivian N. Harriss, 90, a 35-year resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, August 24, 2003. She is survived by her son, Joseph A. Harriss, a journalist based in Paris, France; her daughter-in-law, Claudie Harriss; and grandson, Christopher Harriss. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Harriss, an electronics engineer with the Federal Aviation Agency, in 1960. Born in Goldthwaite, TX, Bivian had a long career with the Federal government as a communications specialist based in Fort Worth, TX, Atlanta, GA, Anchorage, AK, and Seattle, WA. After her retirement in 1968, she visited many countries in Europe and Asia, often as a participant in people-to-people programs such as Friendship Force. Long active in community affairs, she was awarded certificates of appreciation from the State of New Mexico and the City of Albuquerque for outstanding volunteer services, as well as from organizations such as the Civic Light Opera Association, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History, and the New Mexico State Fair. Cremation has taken place and interment of cremated remains will take place at the family lot in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth, TX.
