Obituary for Davis

Gregorio Davis, age 92, a resident of San Antonito, NM since 1932, died Sunday, August 24, 2003. He is survived by his daughters, Sally Cano, Rosemary Amspaugh, Elemita Woods, Martha Tapia and husband, Pete, and Maria Seebach and husband, Mark; sons, Jose Davis and wife, Nita Luna Davis, and Carlos Davis and wife, Rita; 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was born in Austin, Texas but raised in Cotula, Texas. He lived in the East Mountain area, specifically San Antonito, since 1932. He came here with the CCC Camp. He initially was an independent rancher and farmer. He then worked for the Forest Service, followed by work in the construction industry. He retired from the University of New Mexico where he worked in their maintenance department. He continued to work as a security guard into his late seventies. He was a beloved father, grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, August 26, 2003, 7:00 p.m. at the Mission Church of San Antonito, 6 miles north on Highway 14, with Tony Perea reciting. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 27, 2003, 10:00 a.m., at the Mission Church of San Antonito, with Rev. Mark Granito, Celebrant. Interment will follow at San Antonito Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sandino Davis, Chris Cano, Pete Cano, Joe Cano, Glenn Amspaugh, and Gabriel Cano. Honorary pallbearers will be Carlos Davis, Steven Whipple, Charlie Hodge, and Cal Norman.
