Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday August 20, 2003

Hannes Parnegg, 77 years old, passed away Monday, August 18, 2003. A graceful and compassionate man, he died peacefully in his sleep after dealing with Alzheimers disease for the last 5 years. His son, Peter, daughter-in-law, Mary Sue and their children Payton and Miles; three step-children, Will Etheridge, David Etheridge and his wife Nikki, their three children Danielle, Jessica and Jack; and Sandy Beck and her son Casey; and his dearly beloved wife Florence wish him a blessed passage. Born in Vienna, Austria in 1925, he moved after WWII to Los Angeles where he met his now deceased first wife, Janee Sprecher. His then father-in-law, the founder of New Mexico Title, gave him his first job in the title business, which was the beginning of his robust, successful and energetic real estate career. A true spiritual man, gentleman and businessman, he touched thousands of people in Albuquerque and throughout the world. Amongst numerous community and business positions which he held were President of the Board of Realtors, Realtor of the Year, and President of the NMSO Board of Directors. He was instrumental in starting St. Martin's Hospitality Center and continued to volunteer there for years. He was a tremendous skier, an avid tennis player and loved hiking in the mountains with Florence. Kind, sweet, loving, understanding and energetic are the words that always came to mind about Hannes. The funeral service shall be Saturday, August 23, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Johns Cathedral, 318 Silver SW. Donations may be sent to the Casa Maria Alzheimer's Center at 1024 Lead SW, 87102.
