Obituary for Risch

Sylvia H. Risch, age 74, died July 21, 2003 in Ft. Collins, Colorado. She was born Sylvia Helen Hamlin to Silva and LaRessa Hamlin on October 19, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up in Chicago and was valedictorian of her high school class. She graduated from Northeastern University in Dekalb, IL where she was a cheerleader and member of Sigma Kappa sorority. Sylvia married Jack Charles Risch on August 12, 1950 in Chicago. They moved to Albuquerque and lived there for 46 years. She taught elementary school for over 25 years in the Albuquerque Public Schools. She attended Hoffmantown Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed reading, swimming, camping and water-skiing. She played the violin in the community symphony and placed in three swimming events in the New Mexico state-wide Senior Olympics the summer of 1997. Survivors include her sister, Rachel Still of Atlanta; three daughters, Sally Clayshulte of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Amy Rodie of Omaha, and Peggy Hudgens of Joplin, Missouri; and four grandchildren, Alison Clayshulte of San Francisco, Jonathan Clayshulte of Salem, Oregon, Katie Hudgens, of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Gretchen Hudgens of St. John Island, U.S. Virgin Islands. Sylvia Risch will be buried along side her husband in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held Friday August 15, 2003 at 10:30 a.m., in the chapel at Hoffmantown Baptist Church, in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Salvation Army in Sylvia's memory.
