Obituary for Sena

Michael Theodore Sena, 37 of Fort Sumner went to be with his Lord Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at City of Hope Medical Center in Duarte, California. Michael was born September 17, 1965 to the home of Mariano and Romana (Romero) Sena. He attended school at Fort Sumner where he participated in all sports and was the 1983 Homecoming Basketball King. Following graduation he attended Eastern New Mexico University for two years and then transferred to Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. Michael later went on to attend Fountain Gate Bible College in Plano, Texas for two years. He made his home in Los Alamos, NM where he taught at a Christian School and a local Y.M.C.A. where he worked with kids who had dropped out of school and he encouraged them to press on to greater things. He then moved back to Fort Sumner in 1992 and began working at the local feed store. He was named Program Coordinator for the Peers In Touch The PitYouth Center in 1995. He took a dream and made it into a reality. There Michael was able to weight train others, provide a positive and safe environment for people to enjoy and to share all of his gifts with the community. In this same year he was named Outstanding Young Person of Year by the De Baca County Chamber of Commerce. In 1996 he began working at the Pecos Valley Care Center as the Activities Director. He loved the nursing home residents and his co-workers. He could be found leading them in bible studies or taking the residents on a van ride. Michael was a member of the Church On The Hill in Fort Sumner, where he served and Youth Pastor since 1994 and was later ordained a minister in October 2002. He loved to read, listen to music, and raising his pets which included two cats, two goats, and many birds and fish. He likewise enjoyed all sporting events and was an avid supporter of the Fox/Vixen teams. He was named as 12th Man on the Foxes Football team. Above all Michael loved the Lord. He had a heart for youth, his family was his best friend. Michael loved everyone, and never had an enemy. His parents described him as being an awesome son whose biggest hobby was passionately seeking the God. Michael was preceded in death by two sisters an infant Dorothy Sena in 1947; Cecilia Sena in 1976; and a brother. Tim Sena in 1991. Survivors include his parents Mariano and Romana Sena of Fort Sumner, NM; three brothers Richard Sena and wife Gloria; Sam Sena; and Gerald Sena and wife Sarah all of Fort Sumner; two sisters Betty Huerta of Clovis, NM and Dorothy Pacheco and husband Paul of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are eleven nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and many good friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 1 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Chavez Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 11, 2003 from the Fort Sumner High School Gymnasium with Pastor Anna Teeter and Buddy Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Sena, Paul Pacheco, George Romero, Ronald Sena, Pete Segura, and Christopher Sena.
